Instructions
Gather all of the supplies for the project. To make the sign base, place seven jumbo craft sticks side by side on your work surface. Using a glue gun and glue sticks, attach one jumbo craft stick across the top and another across the bottom to hold them together. Tip: Liquid craft glue can also be used, but you will need to allow extra time for it to dry.
Apply a basecoat of dark brown acrylic craft paint that has been slightly diluted with water. Brush it on quickly, then wipe away the excess with a paper towel to create a stained wood look on the craft sticks. Alternatively, you can color the jumbo craft sticks using washable markers, crayons, or colored pencils.
Download, print, and cut out the Yarn Wrapped Shamrock Pattern. Place the template on a piece of scrap corrugated cardboard and trace around it with a pencil. Carefully cut out the shamrock shape using scissors.
Select two colors of yarn. This sample project uses green and white. Tie the ends of the yarn together in a knot and secure the knot to the back of the cardboard shamrock using a glue gun and glue sticks.
Begin wrapping both strands of yarn around the cardboard shamrock in a random pattern. Continue wrapping and add a small dot of glue every five or six wraps to keep the yarn in place. Keep wrapping until the cardboard is completely covered. When finished, tie the yarn ends together in a knot and secure the knot to the back of the shamrock with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Measure and cut a 12-inch piece of natural jute twine with scissors. Turn the sign over and use a glue gun and glue sticks to secure each end of the twine to the top left and right corners on the back of the sign.
Use a glue gun and glue sticks to attach the yarn-wrapped shamrock to the craft stick sign. Press firmly in the center of the shamrock to ensure it sticks securely.
Tie the black gingham ribbon into a bow. Trim small notches into the ends of the ribbon tails to help prevent fraying. Attach the bow to the top of the sign using a glue gun and glue sticks.
