How to Make the Saint Patrick's Day Garland
Here's a simple overview of the steps. Full details are included in the printable instruction sheet.

Step 1: Trace and Cut
Select craft papers in all 7 rainbow colors plus dark green for the shamrocks. Trace the shamrock pattern onto dark green paper and the round shapes onto the other colored papers. Cut out the shapes neatly.

Step 2: Fold the Shapes
Fold each round cutout in half. Fold each shamrock cutout in half symmetrically. You will need three cutouts of each shape to create one 3D shamrock or paper ball.

Step 3: Assemble the 3D Shamrock
Glue two folded shamrock pieces together side by side.

Step 4: Complete Assembly of the 3D Shamrock
Then glue the third folded shamrock between them to create a 3D effect.

Step 5: Assemble the 3D Paper Balls
Glue two folded circles of the same color side by side.

Step 6: Assemble the 3D Paper Balls
Then attach the third folded circle between them to create a 3D paper ball. Repeat for the remaining rainbow colors.

Step 7: Make as Many as You Like
Continue crafting shamrocks and rainbow balls until you have enough to make your garland.

Step 8: Attach to String
Glue the back side of each 3D shape onto a length of string or twine.

Step 9: Arrange and Display
Alternate shamrocks and rainbow balls however you like. Mix and match colors for a bright and festive finish.
Tips for Crafting with Kids
If you're crafting with younger children, you can make things easier by pre-cutting the shapes ahead of time and using glue sticks to keep the mess to a minimum.
Encourage kids to choose their own color patterns and arrange the shamrocks and rainbow balls however they like to make the garland uniquely theirs.
Hanging the finished garland across a window allows the light to shine through the 3D shapes for an extra special effect.
This simple project is also wonderful for developing important skills such as scissor practice, careful folding, color recognition, and early pattern-building abilities.

Decorating Ideas
Hang your finished garland:
- Across the fireplace mantel
- Over a classroom bulletin board
- Along a staircase railing
- Across a party dessert table
- In a child's bedroom for the month of March
It's lightweight, easy to store, and can even be reused next year if handled gently.
