Kathleen
I was raised in England from a 100% beautiful Irish mother and an English father. From birth, in April 1944, to 14years I spent all my long school holidays in a village in Leitrim in Western Ireland, on the farm of my grandparents who lived in a white washed thatched cottage with no electricity or drinking water. There was a spout coming down from the bog at the side of the cottage which provided somewhat brackish water for bathing/washing clothes and there was fresh spring water two fields down from the house. There was an orchard, cows, chickens, turkeys, geese, a donkey and a pony and trap {in which we went to Church on a Sunday) We would put the extra milk in a creamery can under a bridge over the stream for the milkman to collect. My grandmother made the BEST mashed potatoes. She would boil them unpeeled in a large pot hung by a hook on the peat stove. When done she would skin them and save skins for the chickens. Then she would add home churned butter and milk from the cows. They were so fluffy and flavorful. I had a wonderful childhood, Thank you Lord.
