Homemade Gifts for Easter
Each individual bunny peep is attached to a candy stick, dipped in melted chocolate and then given a little white tail. Cellophane gift bags and some ribbons make these into adorable gifts or individual treats to share.
I love simple, no bake edible crafts for little ones to join in some Easter fun, and this recipe/craft fits that bill perfectly.
Here's how I make these adorable little bunnies.
Peeps look very cute to begin with, but a little chocolate coat and a white tail make them extra special.
Ingredients For Chocolate Covered Bunnies for Easter
Here's what you'll need.
- Peeps marshmallow bunnies
- Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips or Milk Chocolate Chips if you prefer
- Vegetables Oil
- Mini Marshmallows
- Long lollipop sticks
Instructions for Chocolate Bunnies on a Stick
First let's make some tails. Cut 8 mini marshmallows in half. You will need one half for each bunny.
Next, insert a lollipop stick into the bottom of each little bunny peep.
Be careful as you do this. You don't want to squish the bunny and cause it to lose shape completely.
Push it through carefully until you feel it reach almost to the ears. Be sure not to push it all the way through the top of the marshmallow bunny.
Next you need to melt the chocolate.
Pour a bag of chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl.
Microwave the chips for 30 seconds and stir.
Microwave again for another 30 seconds and stir.
If the chips are not quite melted, microwave again for about 15 seconds. Be careful not to overcook them.
Watch your fingers, because the bowl can get really hot. Use a cloth to protect your fingers as you lift the bowl in and out of the microwave.
To make the chocolate a little thinner and to help it coat the bunnies, stir some oil into the chocolate. Mix it completely until it is well combined and the chocolate drips off the end of a spoon.
Hold each Peep by the stick, over the bowl of melted chocolate.
Use a spoon to coat the bunny in chocolate, covering it well and letting the excess chocolate drip off.
Place a marshmallow, cut side down on the back of each bunny to create a cute little tail.
You can create a gift presentation if you wish.
When the Peeps are dry you can put them in a clear cellophane treat bag and tie it around the stick with a ribbon or string.
This makes the bunnies look ever so cute.
These chocolate covered Peeps can be made up to 1 day in advance.
