They're back! Ireland's farmers have manned up once again, donned their wellies, taken off their shirts, and posed for the Irish Farmer Calendar in support of the charity Bóthar.
This year Ciara Ryan, creator of the calendar series, has graciously provided two copies to give away to readers of this little blog of mine. So let's take a look at what awaits the lucky winners.
Table of Contents
100% Irish Beef
That's right! Who doesn't want to adorn their wall with charming Irish farmers dusting their tractors, knitting their sweaters, or wrestling up on the pig's back.
2012's rainy Irish summer created shooting challenges for photographer Ian Shipley.
"The end result makes up for getting soaked through for two days. Who would have thought that you could get so wet in June? All the lads were brilliant and managed to keep smiling despite being wind blown, wet, cold and wrestling with pigs in the mud. Thankfully we managed to squeeze another day in when the sun popped out for half a day".
Irish Farming Calendar To Support Charity
And thankfully the sun popped out, even if just for a few hours to allow our lovely lads display their farmers' tans in all their shirtless glory.
Ciara says interest in the calendar this year is far exceeding previous years. The very first order came from Ohio, USA.
This is great news, especially since a portion of sales help support the wonderful work of Bóthar.
This Irish charity enables families and communities worldwide to overcome hunger and poverty and to restore the environment in a sustainable way. To do this, they specialize in improving livestock production and supporting related training and community development. A very worthy cause!

If I win I'm keeping the farmers all for myself. Maybe these lads will help me focus and write the correct time as I record soccer practices, and dance classes for my kids all next year. Hoping to win some 100% Irish beef to hang on my wall.
Irish American Mom
Maggie - You'll never keep track of who needs to be where and when if these boys distract you as you write down your appointments.LOL

I am still hoping for the Irish Farmers' Daughters calendar for 2013. One can wish.
Irish American Mom
John - Irish Farmers can be female too, so I think a few women driving combine harvesters are definitely called for next year.

Haha, this is so cute!
Irish American Mom
This is the fourth year for this calendar - each year they have done a good job thinking of funny shots for their farmer volunteers.

First of all, My mother in law, Sharon would be the delighted new owner of this Calendar, I married her red headed "proud to be Irish" son, Michael 🙂 this way when she gets to missing the brawny boy of hers she can take a peek at the calendar and think of mighty fine Irish dishes that she would them farmers on chilly eves after their evening chores. 🙂
PS She was so very excited about God giving her son a new daugher, she bought me my first new nightie for the honeymoon!
Irish American Mom
Heather - It sounds like your mother-in-law would really appreciate these fine Irish farmers. Who knows, with a little luck of the Irish you may be able to present her with it on Christmas morning.
All the best, and thanks for stopping by,
Mairéad

I never truly understood everyone's love for Ireland until I visited it in October 2012. Now I know and can't wait to go back (we are tentatively planning to go back in 5 years). On my recent trip I received a marriage proposal from a jaunting car driver...I knew he wasn't serious, but for a moment it felt really good. Would love to have a copy of the calendar so that I can get better acquainted with Ireland and enjoy more scenery than I was able to visit while there.
Irish American Mom
Traci - I am so happy to hear you had such a wonderful time in Ireland, and glad to know you are already planning a return trip. There really is something magical about Ireland.
All the best,
Mairéad
