Why You'll Love This Craft
This budget-friendly craft, made with simple dollar store finds, is quick and easy to create, making it perfect for busy families who love seasonal decorating.
The customizable message allows you to add a personal touch, while the rustic farmhouse style fits beautifully into any home décor. It even makes a thoughtful handmade seasonal gift.

Supplies You'll Need
Here's what you'll need to put these festive Irish garlands together. You'll find all of the details in the printable craft instruction sheet at the bottom of this post.
From the dollar store:
- Three hardcover books
- Silk shamrocks
- Plastic gold coins
- ½" rainbow grosgrain ribbon
Other craft supplies:
- White, ivory, and light grey craft paint
- Upper- and lower-case alphabet stamps
- Black ink pad
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Wire cutters
- Permanent black marker
Step-by-Step Instructions
Here's a simple overview of the steps. Full details are included in the printable instruction sheet.

Step 1: Basecoat the Books
Remove the dust covers from your hardcover books. Mix white and ivory craft paint, but don't overmix. You want a slightly streaky finish so some of the darker book cover shows through.
Brush the mixture onto the canvas covers for a rustic, farmhouse look. Set aside to dry.

Step 2: Add Distressing
Using light grey paint, lightly dry brush around the edges and corners of the books where natural wear would occur. This gives your stack that charming, timeworn appearance.
Allow to dry completely.

Step 3: Stamp Your Message
Select the following phrase, or anything you'd like to say:
LET THE SHENANIGANS BEGIN
Place the books spine-up and stamp each letter using both upper- and lower-case alphabet stamps for that imperfect farmhouse charm.
If any letters don't stamp cleanly, simply touch them up with a permanent black marker.

Step 4: Stack and Tie
Stack the books together and wrap them with rainbow ribbon. Secure with a square knot at the center and leave long ribbon tails.
Cut a small triangular notch at the ends to prevent fraying.

Step 5: Add the Finishing Touch
Using wire cutters, snip two small sections from a silk shamrock bunch and tuck them under each side of the ribbon.
Add a few plastic gold coins for extra sparkle, because every Saint Patrick's Day display needs a little treasure.
Make It Your Own
One of my favorite parts of this craft is how customizable it is. Try stamping:
- "Lucky & Blessed"
- "Erin Go Bragh"
- Your family name
- A favorite Irish saying
This project can easily reflect your own family's personality and traditions.

- 1 Wire Cutter
- 1 Black Permanent Marker
- 1 Black Ink Pad
- Alphabet Stamps Upper and Lower Case
Materials
- 3 Hardcover Books
- Craft Paints Ivory, cream and light grey colors
- 1 roll Rainbow Ribbon
- 1 bunch Silk Shamrocks Dollar Store
- 6 Golden Coins Dollar Store
Instructions
- Collect your supplies and remove the paper dust jackets from the books. Paint the canvas covers with a blend of white and ivory craft paint, lightly mixing so the colors stay slightly streaky. Apply the paint in a rough coat, allowing some of the darker cover to show through for a rustic look. Let the books dry completely.
- Lightly dry brush light grey paint along the edges and corners of the books where natural wear would typically appear. Allow them to dry completely.
- Choose the phrase LET THE SHENANIGANS BEGIN using both upper- and lower-case alphabet stamps. Arrange the books with the spines facing up, ink each letter stamp, and press firmly onto the spine. The slightly uneven look of the stamped letters adds to the farmhouse charm. Tip: If any letters don't stamp clearly, touch them up with a permanent black marker.
- Pile the books neatly together and wrap them with the rainbow ribbon. Tie a square knot at the center, leaving the ribbon ends long. Trim each tail with a small triangular notch to help prevent fraying.
- To complete the project, use wire cutters to trim two small sprigs from a silk shamrock bunch and tuck one under each side of the ribbon. The shamrocks can be lightly glittered for an extra festive touch.
