Who Are The People Behind This Great Idea?
Katharine Keane Barrett and Thomas Barrett, a husband and wife duo, who live in Dingle, County Kerry set up My Ireland Box in 2012 as a result of their love of Irish designed crafts and artisan foods.
Thomas was a currency trader by profession and Katharine a qualified solicitor, when they left the corporate world in Dublin in 2007 and returned to Katharine’s native Dingle, County Kerry .
Surrounded by gifted craftspeople and food producers, the idea for My Ireland Box was soon born.
Merging their experiences in the corporate world and their passions for the Irish tourist industry, they launched My Ireland Box.
By creating a subscription gift service they introduce subscribers to wonderful Irish handmade and artisan products and to those who make them!
What Surprises Await In My Ireland Box?
The monthly craft box includes a selection of 1 large or 2-4 Irish made or designed home goods, accessories, jewellery, stationary or beauty products and the value of the box is at least €30, and it’s usually more.
My Ireland Box Food promises a variety of delicious Irish made artisan tasty treats of at least €20 or more in value. Unfortunately for those of us in America, the food box is only available in the EU and UK.
The story and information on each Irish craft maker whose product is featured is included. What a wonderful way to introduce Irish made products to those who may not be able to easily discover or access them.

It is hard to pick just one craft since there are so many that I have been fortunate to view and have even bought a couple. I think for me it would be the glass cutting. I was able to visit the crystal stores in Kinsale, Dingle and Carrick on Shannon. Everyone was very proud of their craft and very eager to share how they did it. Ken, at Leitrim Crystal in Carrick on Shannon was the most eager to show us as he invited us to stand RIGHT over his shoulder and watch how he made the beautiful cuts in the glass. It wasn't just for a minute or two either. He almost finished a whole vase while we hovered over his shoulder taking turns video taping his every move. He said he loved when we came in because he "could show us how he does it and get his work done at the same time." He was wonderful. I will say that we haven't found an unpleasant person in Ireland. They have all been very helpful, funny and just so nice.

My favorite thing about Ireland is the people!

When I think of Ireland I think of the afghans my Irish grandmother used to crochet. She learned the craft as a child growing up in Co Mayo, and she was always crocheting. I don't think she ever stopped, unless she was asleep 🙂
Janet Cosgrove
Would love to win a surprise box! My husband and I are so hoping to visit Ireland. His mother came over to US at age 11; the rest of the family were to follow, but they didn't. She never saw any of her family again.

The beauty of Dingle and the whole pennisula is tough to match. From the Sleeping Giant, Connor's Pass, Beehive Huts, Inch Beach and further inland the lakes of Killarney, they all take you to a magical place. So much history, kindness that is matched by none and a richness in heritage all shape this area. Great products from the sea, brown bread, cheeses, celtic cross jewelry, beautiful paintings, pottery, they abound. An isle full of wealth, not necessarily always monetarily, but a sincere pureness.
Linda Terrill
Since I love everything Irish, I'm sure I'll love everything each box has to offer.

My grandparents immigrated from County Mayo (a most beautiful area) to the USA in the 1920's, when they were young adults; shortly thereafter my mom was born. I was fortunate enough to have spent vacations in the summer with my Irish grandmother...she always called me sweetheart! I was also lucky enough to have traveled to Ireland in 2006 with my mom/sister/bro-in-law and went to the historical society in Ballinrobe. They knew my grandmother's family and sent us over to her ancestral home. It was a small dwelling, but it was thrilling! And the young neighbors's were so generous with their time and told us stories about my grandmom's siblings who had remained living in the area. I'm partial to Irish linens, fisherman sweaters, and connemara marble. Cead mile failte!

I love Ireland so much I moved here three weeks ago from Florida - thanks for, having this giveaway!
Theresa Morris
My Gr.gr.grandmother Theresa and her older brother were brought to America from Ireland by their Da during the time of the great famine. I can find nothing on their mother and wonder if she had already perished. My Grandmother Theresa was an infant, only months old. What a miracle my line survived! Now I long to return to their home although I doubt I'll be able to. Bless you for this wonderful idea 🙂
Carol Burguiere
When I think of Ireland, I think of my Nana and the stories she told me about the stories and love woven into the items that were knitted. I also wear her cross that has stones from Connemara

Having just tackled my first Aran style sweater, I think of knitting as an Irish craft. Not to be forgotten would be all the tam o'shanters my Grandma fro County Cork would knit for all her grandchildren for Christmas.
I have not been lucky enough to go to Ireland, but I'm not dead yet, so there's always a chance ahead!
Thanks for holding this contest.
