Baileo is an online Irish gift store for those who love all things Irish. It was founded by four sisters from County Tyrone.
Today, I'm delighted to host a giveaway sponsored by Baileo. We have a gorgeous Celtic inspired scarf as a prize for one lucky reader to win.
But before I share the details of how to enter our giveaway, let's hear about the four sisters behind this new and growing business.
Anne Marie, one of the founders of Baileo, shares their story with us today.

Inspiration Through Loss - A Tale Of Four Sisters
Sometimes it takes a broken heart to create something that you never thought possible. That’s how it was for me and my sisters.
We lost our mom to a long battle with Alzheimer’s, and, just over a year later, I lost my husband unexpectedly and way too prematurely. Loss has a way of bringing into stark reality what is most important in life.
We are not your typical entrepreneurs. We didn’t sit down to think about a big idea, or what we could sell, to whom and for how much. Our driving force was much more personal – we wanted to do something together as sisters that would honor the memory of our mom and dad, and my husband, Gerry.
They shared a love of Ireland— the rituals, tradition, music, dancing, stories, poetry, humor, and the incredibly beautiful, rugged land. They simply loved feeling ‘at home’.

Longing for Home
As sisters who traveled the globe and now living in different parts of the world, we have always felt a strong pull to Ireland, and you only have to step through our front doors to see this in our own homes.
Around every corner, you’ll find something from Ireland that reminds us of home. We know what it’s like to be far away and to crave that connection to stay in touch with who we are and where we’re from.
And we know we’re not alone. For generations, Celtic people have traveled and migrated to all four corners of the earth, taking with them centuries of culture and customs that have helped shape new communities across countless countries.
Put pins on the map, and you’ll find us all over. But many Irish people landed in North America; in Canada, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, California (where I now live), Georgia, and Florida. The one thing we all have in common is our great fondness for Home or ‘Baile’, as we say in Irish.
That’s why we four sisters, originally from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, created Baileo. For people like us — Celts who want to celebrate their heritage and bring a touch of Ireland to their family, friends, and home.

Irish Pride
Today, Ireland is changing. It’s now one of the most culturally diverse nations in Europe. It hosts the European headquarters for several of the top global companies and is a hub of creativity, art, fashion, design, and innovation.
It’s a contemporary, modern Ireland that still holds true to its welcoming nature and lively heritage. It’s an Ireland we’re proud of and that you’ll see reflected in the content and products we offer.
In creating baileo, we were clear about one thing: we wanted to give back to our homeland—telling the stories, showcasing artists, sharing the craic and the beauty.
At baileo, whether you’re Irish or not, you’ll learn about this beautiful place, and be entertained along the way.
We also want to help keep our culture and heritage alive by supporting the amazing talent in Ireland, especially in a world where Covid turned many livelihoods upside down.
Whether from an individual artisan, a family business, or a community enterprise, at baileo you’ll find a mix of modern and classic authentic Irish products, all lovingly crafted by people who care. And yes, made in Ireland means made in Ireland.

Baileo Scented Candles
One of the elements we have enjoyed the most is creating our Baileo scented candles. We learned a lot about candle-making and ultimately created scents that reminded us most of home.
Anyone who has been to Ireland will recognize them: Atlantic Mist, Soft Rain, and Fireside. Our favorite candle is the one we made in memory of our mother and to honor mothers everywhere. It’s called Grá Máthair (Irish for ‘A Mother’s Love’) and is filled with the fresh uplifting scents of the garden she loved.
We’re just getting started, learning as we go, and there is still much to do. Who knew that our conversations these days would be about coding, shipping, currency exchange, marketing, payment systems, search engine optimization and the like – and what’s even more amazing is that we’re doing most of it ourselves!
I’m so proud of my sisters who have taught me that it’s never too late to step outside your comfort zone, to take a risk, learn new skills and try new things. The way we spend our time today is very different to how we spent it a year ago.
A Labor of Love
To get to this point has been a labor of love for sure. But we remind ourselves every day of why we’re doing it. There is truly no place like Ireland. It has a way of touching the depths of your soul. And if you listen to our Ballad of Baileo, an original poem narrated by my sisters, you’ll understand.
Lastly, you may be wondering what Baileo means and how to pronounce it. It’s a simple concept. Baileo (pronounced bal-yeh-oh) is a contraction of the Irish saying ‘baile ón mbaile’ – ‘home from home’.
We’re delighted to welcome you to ours.
Come on in. Have a look around, and we’d love to hear what you think.
