New Irish Cookbook
In today's blog post, I'm delighted to feature this new cookbook and the chefs who share their wonderful recipes. And good news! We have a giveaway for a copy of this beautiful hard cover book.
The good folks at Charlesbridge, the publishers of this new Irish recipe book, have graciously provided a copy for a lucky Irish American Mom reader to win.
But before I share the details of how to enter this little sweepstakes let me first give you a sneak peak inside, and introduce you to the talented chefs who contributed recipes to this collection.
Ireland's Cuisine
Let's face it! Ireland’s cuisine has gotten a bad rap over the years, conjuring images of over-boiled meats and vegetables, artery-clogging fry-ups, and lots and lots of soda bread. I've shared before how I'll make no apologies for Irish food, especially since the new Irish food culture has impressively changed and improved our cuisine.
Today in Ireland, fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients are used to make mouthwatering and sophisticated meals that satisfy and inspire.

The New Irish Table Recipe Book
In this photographic journey of Ireland’s provinces, readers are invited into the kitchens of ten of Ireland’s top, award-winning chefs, including celebrity chef Kevin Dundon of PBS Create’s “Kevin Dundon’s Modern Irish Food,” to experience the recipes that make them stand out.
Celebrating simple fare and emphasizing local resources, these chefs are proving that Ireland is a contemporary food destination.
Gorgeous photos of both food and landscape capture the imagination—and the appetite—and make you long for green hills, good craic, and heartwarming meals.
Perfect for the kitchen counter or the coffee table, The New Irish Table is a welcoming invitation to today’s Ireland.
Ten Award-Winning Chefs
Ten award-winning chefs dismantle the stereotype of Irish cuisine being a boil, a fry, or soda bread.
Here's a little background information on each of the contributing chefs.

Catherine uses only the best of local and seasonal produce at Ballyknocken. A recognized TV presence, Catherine has appeared in many countries including the UK, France, U.S. (The Today Show), Australia, and New Zealand.

Tim's background of classic Irish and European cooking has blended well with newer trends to produce dishes that show contemporary Irish cuisine at its best.
An Irish Meal
An Irish meal must nourish the soul as well as the body, teasing each of the senses. Through this book, home cooks are invited into each featured chef's restaurant and/or home to experience recipes that utilize fresh fish, lamb, beef, pork, fruits, and vegetables, and, of course, Ireland's renowned cheeses.
Celebrating the new Irish food culture, this compilation emphasizes local resources, and simple fare.

Wonderful to see chefs who have not published their own books contributing here. I love to use my Irish recipes. I miss the raw ingredients that are available in Ireland ; dairy, meat, produce and eggs all differ here. Book looks beautiful, love good photography in cook books. Will have to spread the word especially to my friend who worked with Ian Orr.
Suzanne
Would love to win this book as I am of Irish heritage but have no true Irish recipes.
Darina Coffey
It's only when you've been away from Ireland and come back that you realize how wonderful the food is there. I'm always impressed with the fresh flavour of everything even if it's just a simple bowl of soup and brown bread for lunch! I'd love to win a copy of this book and to become familiar with other great Irish chefs!
Irish American Mom
So true Darina. Irish food is simple but full of flavor. Soup and brown bread is so satisfying and delicious.
Best wishes,
Mairéad

I would love to win this book for my daughter. She is fascinated with her Irish heritage which came through my family tree. She and her husband visited Ireland and loved the people, land, and food. They stayed several days in each location with people who rented rooms in their homes. They came away with a real appreciation for her Irish roots and a genuine love for Ireland. She's an adventurous cook who would adore trying these recipes and reliving their Irish experience!
Irish American Mom
Hi Deborah - I'm delighted to hear your daughter had such a great time in Ireland, and that she felt so connected to the land of her ancestors.
Best wishes,

Cat McCormick
I am first generation American Irish and I am a Cook in The States. I love eating at Kevin Dundon's Raglan Road Gastropub since I live in Florida. I can't believe how food cuisine has changed since 1969 when I was home in Ireland with Mam. My Mam's recipe's are so special to me but I love cooking the awesome one's you post as well, and ones from Kevin's cookmbook. They have all been Fab! So many delicious dishes! I love good food, because it brings us am together as family!
Cat McCormick
I am first generation American Irish and I love seeing how all cuisine has changed, especially Irish since 1969 my first trip home with Mam. I love eating at Kevin Dundon's Ragln Road since I live in Florida. I especially loving cooking his recipes, your recipes and most of all the old traditional recipe's of my Mam! I love beautiful food as it is a common thread amongst us!
Mark J. Connolly
I have built a small library of Irish cookbooks, from small pamphlet-sized collections of old family stand-bus to coffee-table works packed with history, backstories and beautiful photos. Looking forward to adding this one as I continue to hope that one day we will see "Irish" restaurants in America that celebrate all the cuisine, from the simple and rustic fare that has bred so many unfair stereotypes -- why are tamales and naan exotic and hip but soda bread, rashers, cabbage, and potatoes a million different ways the stuff of one-liners tucked inside stories of pints, pubs, and mornings after? (I have my theories, but that's a conversation for another day) -- to these newer recipes drawing on those Irish traditions. Most "Irish" restaurants you step into today in the US plop down menus that resemble the latest roll-out from Applebee's with a few almost apologetic nods to the "old country" tucked at the bottom of the back page. Blogs like yours and books like this are a step in the right direction.
Irish American Mom
Hi Mark - I agree with you wholeheartedly about the fare served in many Irish restaurants in America. There's nothing truly Irish about their menus, and it's usually only a name adopted for the menu item that actually connects it to Ireland in anyway.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
Mairéad
Susan Mayo
My husbands family is from Mayo County. I am a mixture of so many different places. I would love to be able to cook for his family.
Christi Caughey
I would really love this wonderful cookbook! Mainly because Over the last few years our PBS station has introduced us to some of the chefs, and I have found some programs online some of the others! Hope I win. 🙂
irishnannie
Thank you, Mairead*, for this fine opportunity for owning this wonderful book!
And thank you to Darina, Martin, Derry, Ultan, Kevin, Catherine, Neven, Noel, Ian, and Tim!
"An Irish meal must nourish the soul as well as the body...!" Reading these words cannot fail to retrieve memories of the absolute pleasure of the "fragrance" of potatoes boiling for supper, and bread pudding baking in the oven! Sounds like this book will help bring new meaning and memories to these words!
God bless each of you!
Patricia Murrin
I would love to win this cookbook.
Lenora Thompson
Your recipe for roasted potatoes was AMAZING! My husband loved it...and he's not easily impressed. I would love to get the book! Thanks again for your recipes.
Penny Wolf
A favorite? It depends on the day, hahaha!

Carmela
My husband and I miss the delicious, fresh food we ate in Ireland, when we lived in Dublin as a couple for 6 years, and when Peter grew up in County Tyrone (Cookstown). We would love to re-create old and new recipes with this delightful cookbook! Thank you for sharing the news of its creation with us! I would love to write about it, too, on my blog the-well-seasoned-mama.com!
Irish American Mom
Hi Carmela - This book would be wonderful for you and your husband to try some new Irish recipes. I'm sure the publishers would be delighted if you could feature it on your blog. I will pass your blog and e-mail onto the publicist.
Best wishes,

Concepta Bithell
I grew up in Galway in the 50's and 60's on the boiled everything and the fry ups. I live in Massachusetts but have been getting back every 2 years up until 2010. The food has changed tremendously in Ireland - for the better I will add. I'm a great cook and baker so I would be interested in seeing this new cookbook. I make the traditional soda (brown) bread and the raisin breads, along with the treacle.
Irish American Mom
Hi Concepta - A lot less boiling done in Ireland these days, thank God. Glad to hear you enjoy cooking and baking like I do. This is a great recipe book.
Take care,
Mairéad

I still love my wheaten loaf toasted for breakfast and as a bedtime snack.
Maureen
Loved ordering soup or chowder for lunch while visiting Ireland. Always delicious.
Marion Miller
I am from South Africa and have struggled to replicate the wonderful whole wheat bread of home! I have found that Irish flour produces a loaf of bread that is hearty, wholesome and like home! On a recent trip to Ireland, I gobbled up as much wonderful bread as I could and even brought some home with me! I now import flour from an Irish website and make my own delicious bread and scones! I would love to own this recipe book and try new recipes!
Veronica McGrath
What a delightful cookbook with such delicious looking recipes. I will never forget our time in Ireland, which was my favorite trip by far, because the people are so lovely!
Suzi
Looks like a lovely book!

Although I love the traditionalist dishes, on my last trip to Ireland, my son and I tried out some "nouveux Irish dishes" in some very fine restaurants and we were both so very impressed! I would love to have some of the recipes to try at home!

Hello Mairead, I would love to win this cookbook for my daughter. She is a professor here in the states and loves to cook a lot of Irish food. I went to Ireland with her and her husband about a year and a half ago. I had the best vegetable soup there. The other food we had was also delicious. I have used a lot of your recipes and will continue. Thank you for this opportunity.
