Easy Halloween Appetizers
Impress your guests at your next Halloween party with these cute and savory witch's broomsticks. They're perfect appetizers or snacks for treating your Halloween guests.
Made with three simple and easy to find ingredients, these little witch's broomsticks can feature as an edible craft at a kid's Halloween party.

Ingredients for Halloween Broomsticks
Here's what you'll need for these witch's brooms. You'll find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Cheese strings or cheese sticks as they are called in Ireland. I used the plain colored mozzarella variety, but feel free to use orange and white cheese twists, or you can make broomsticks with orange bristles if you prefer orange cheese strings.
- Pretzel sticks - you can use any length pretzel stick you wish. However, if they're very long they tend to break. Be sure they're relatively wide and sturdy since you will need to push them through one end of the cheese stick.
- Chives add a little green color and decoration to these witch brooms. Plus they're flexible to allow you to tie them in a knot to resemble the string holding a broom together.
Instructions for Broomstick Party Appetizers
Here's how easy it is to make these little broomsticks. First prepare the string cheese stick, which will form the lower end of the broom.

Simply cut each cheese string in half. This recipe will create ten witch's broomstick snacks from five cheese strings.

Next it's time to put slits in the bottom of each cheese piece. Cut through the bottom half of a cheese piece with a sharp knife.
Turn the cheese stick by a quarter turn and cut again. Repeat two more times to create the frayed end of the broom.

Next stick the pretzel stick through the uncut end of the cheese piece.

Lay the broomstick on a fresh chive, placed at the uncut end of the cheese piece.

Tie a knot in the fresh chive to resemble the fastening of a broom.
And that's all there is to it.
If you make these appetizers in advance, store them covered in an airtight container in the fridge. I do not recommend making them more than two hours in advance. If stored too long in the refrigerator the pretzel sticks will become soggy.
