Green snake treats are fun and healthy snacks for kids and a great way to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day.
Snakes as a snack on Saint Patrick’s Day – you may think I’ve lost my marbles by recommending these fun snacks, rather than green-dyed milk or shamrock cookies, the more traditional sweet fare for this special Irish day.
But most Irish people know that snakes are closely associated with our beloved saint.
Saint Patrick Banishes the Snakes from Ireland:
Legend has it that Saint Patrick drove all the snakes from Ireland, and that’s why there are no snakes in Ireland, to this very day. Well, at least no snakes in the wild, just a few in the zoo and as pets in people’s homes.
These little healthy snakes are a wonderful way to mark this festive Irish occasion. We all love to chow down on holiday-inspired desserts. But let’s face it most sweeter party treats for St. Patrick’s Day are usually not on the healthy side of the menu.
That’s where these cuties fill the void. They’re simply made of green grapes, with candy eyes. Only the teeniest wee bit of sugar in those eyes.
This fun treat is a great way to introduce little ones to the stories of Saint Patrick.
They can even help to make their very own snakes. Supervise toddlers and little ones, since we don’t want anyone poking an eye with a pointy wooden skewer.
These snake snacks help to add a little pizzazz after the long winter. Spring is on its way and so are the snakes in Kentucky.
Here’s a tongue twister. Try repeating this, over and over….
“Green grape snake snacks!”
Kids can have a little fun with that phrase.
Anyway, let’s move on and make a few snakes – the non-wiggly kind, because these ones are skewered and straight.

Instructions For Green Grape Snake Snacks:
Here you’ll find step-by-step instructions for these no-bake, no-cook snacks.
They’re simply skewered grapes, so not too many steps at all.
First choose 6 grapes for the heads. Make sure they are the best shapes and maybe even the biggest grapes in the pack.
Set them aside until you thread the body grapes onto the skewer.
Use long wooden skewers which are sometimes called bamboo skewers.
Place 9 grapes lengthwise on each skewer to form the body.
Next add the final “head” grape.
Then all that’s left is to give your snakes some eyes, so they can watch out for Saint Patrick coming after them.
Using the icing place a dab on the back of each candy eye.
Place two eyes on each “head” grape.
Chill the snakes before serving.
And that’s all there is to it. A simple, but ever so cute snack for Saint Patrick’s Day.
Note: Watch small children around wooden skewers.
