However these sweet treats are in keeping with our green theme for the day, and are far healthier than sugar laden fare.

That's where these cuties fill the void. They're simply made of green grapes, with candy eyes. Only the teeniest wee bit of sugar in those eyes.

This fun treat is a great way to introduce little ones to the stories of Saint Patrick.

Ingredients and Materials for Grape Snakes

• wooden skewers
• green grapes
• icing(any color)
• edible candy eyes

This is the list for these basic green grape snakes. You can get creative and add some marshmallows in between each grape. If you could find orange and white marshmallows you could imitate the colors of the Irish flag.

You could also choose to make rainbow fruit snakes using different kinds of fruit. Create the snakes body with multi colored fruits like green apple pieces, pineapple, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. Simply finish the snake with a grape to create the correct shaped head.

This Irish themed snack may not technically be considered a traditional Irish food, but for Saint Patrick's Day I think creativity in the kitchen is key. Impress your party guests with these cute little gluten-free snakes. Nobody need know they're super easy to put together.

Instructions For Green Grape Snake Snacks

Here you'll find step-by-step instructions for these no-bake, no-cook snacks.

They're simply skewered grapes, so not too many steps at all.

First choose 6 grapes for the heads. Make sure they are the best shapes and maybe even the biggest grapes in the pack.

Set them aside until you thread the body grapes onto the skewer.

Use long wooden skewers which are sometimes called bamboo skewers.

Place 9 grapes lengthwise on each skewer to form the body.

Next add the final “head” grape.

Then all that's left is to give your snakes some eyes, so they can watch out for Saint Patrick coming after them.

Using the icing place a dab on the back of each candy eye.

Place two eyes on each “head” grape.

Chill the snakes before serving.

And that's all there is to it. A simple, but ever so cute snack for Saint Patrick's Day.

Note: Watch small children around wooden skewers. They're pretty pointy and could cause an injury. I don't recommend these snakes as a school snack, since the skewers may not be the best idea.
