Children can be worriers and taking those fears and anxieties away is every parent's greatest wish. Did you know the fairies can help take worries away?
Today, I'm delighted to share the inspirational story of how the Irish Fairy Door Company was founded. This wonderful contribution is from Niamh Barry, one of the co-founders of this very successful Irish company.

Irish Fairies and Their Mystical Powers
Now Irish fairies have extraordinary mystical powers for turning worries into magical fairy dust ....
- If you are worried about feeling left out, the fairies will turn those worries about.
- If going to the doctor makes you feel iffy, listen to the fairies and cheer up in a jiffy...
- If missing somebody is getting you down, a bit of fairy magic can help with your frown
The Irish Fairy Door Company has graciously sponsored a giveaway for one lucky reader to win.
But before I share the details of how to enter, let me hand you over to Niamh to tell you all about her innovative company, and how the new fairy Worry Plaque can help children ease their troubles by sharing them with the fairies....
A Gander Into the Magical World of The Irish Fairy Door Company by Niamh Barry
When my friend and I first started this magical journey with our children, we knew it was special. We knew that we had tapped into our little people’s imagination just enough that it ignited in the most wonderful way.
Our fairies had been living with us for a few years when the initial ‘could we make this into a business’ conversation happened…
We were all in Aoife’s kitchen – myself and my husband, Oisin, and Aoife and her husband, Gavin. Gavin and Oisin were discussing how they were going to go into business together some day while Aoife and I were discussing what was happening with our fairies and trading ideas on how to expand the magic even more.
All of a sudden, the two boys had tuned into our conversation and were listening intently.
The questions started then… do we think that other mams would enjoy this as much as we did… how does it actually all work??
After what seemed like a very quick conversation, it was announced by the boys ‘We could make money out of this!’
Of course Aoife and I laughed, both thinking that they were mad!
But as it turned out, they weren’t mad at all… There are now over 400,000 fairies living in human homes.
Of course, we are thrilled to be two Irish couples making it in the toy business in America, but what we are most proud of is the difference our little doors are making in homes all around the world.
So What Happens When A Fairy Moves In With Your Family?
The answer is very simple. Magic happens, genuine real magic. All of a sudden there is a little magical being to consider. A little magical being there to blow away bad dreams, to collect teeth, to bring good luck and happiness wherever they go.
We have had lots of wonderful feedback from families over the last 3 years but probably the best feedback we get is parents telling us how much the entire family is getting involved and that it is one of the few things that everyone can be part of. All of a sudden, not only are the children using their imagination, their parents are too!
We are just the tool; children innately have an imagination, but with the amount of screens that are now infiltrating their lives, their imaginations are becoming a little dormant.
We could try and describe to you what happens when you give a child a fairy door, but really the best thing to do is to give them one and see for yourself. It’s instant: The imagination ignites and the journey begins.
From choosing where to put their fairy door to what name they are going to give their fairy, their little minds go into overdrive imagining all of the possibilities! The play pattern becomes very meaningful. They are looking after this little magical being. He or she is now part of their family!
We have received so many heart-warming, and even some heart-breaking stories, since we started; each of how a fairy has helped in some way to make a child feel better.
The Worry Plaque
One of the themes that kept reoccurring was how children were now sharing their worries with their fairy. This is what has led us to our brand new addition, the Worry Plaque.
Here's how it works – simply place your hand on the Worry Plaque and think of your worry. A red light will glow as the fairies hear your worry. After a few seconds, the light will glow green, signifying that the fairies have taken your worry away for good!
We are delighted with how it has been received thus far, so launching it in America is a very exciting prospect for us!
Having traveled to America lots in 2016, I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people. Quite a few of my friends and colleagues there have Irish roots, whether they are an O’Brien or an O’Mara, people are drawn to the story of The Irish Fairy Door Company.
People really believe that we are the ‘original’ fairy door company. We are Irish, so it goes without saying!! We are a nation of deep mythology and legend. We are storytellers to our very bones.
Being over in America telling our story is an absolute dream come true for us. Spreading the magic as far and wide as possible is our mission for 2017 and beyond!

Did you see them on the Late Late Toy Show, I would have loved that worry hand for my son when he was younger. I thought it was a great idea.
Irish American Mom
Hi Lorna - I did see it on the Late Late Toy Show. It was funny how at first it didn't work as if it got stage fright, but the fairies definitely came to the rescue. I think this is an amazing idea and will help little ones everywhere sleep more peacefully and wake up without a care in the world.
Best wishes,
Mairéad
